Straight teeth don’t just improve your smile, they also support better oral health. At Magic Smiles, we offer clear aligner therapy at our Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga locations as a discreet alternative to metal braces. Using a series of clear, custom-made aligners, this treatment gently moves your teeth without brackets or wires, giving you a straighter smile, comfortably and invisibly.

Clear aligners are designed to be worn about 22 hours every day. If they aren’t worn often enough, treatment time can last much longer than intended. Therefore, it’s important to follow the guidelines recommended by your dentist.
Each set of aligner trays is made to shift your teeth into their proper positions gradually over time. Most patients wear the first set for about two weeks, then switch them out for the next set in the series – and so on. Every time the trays are switched out, your teeth will move further into alignment.

Clear aligners boast a number of advantages over traditional orthodontics. For instance, clear aligner therapy is:
Millions of patients have taken advantage of clear aligner therapy. Due to its advanced technology, the clear aligner system can address most of the same issues as traditional metal braces, including:
Some patients may not be eligible for clear aligner therapy. Candidacy depends on several different factors, including the severity and complexity of your case. Furthermore, if orthodontic misalignment is the result of skeletal discrepancies, oral surgery may be necessary in conjunction with traditional orthodontic treatment.
Many patients want to know how long clear aligner therapy takes. In most instances, this type of treatment takes about the same amount of time as traditional braces. On average, most patients can complete their treatment in 12 to 18 months.
While in the active treatment phase, patients will need to visit the dentist every four to six weeks to ensure the teeth are moving as expected. Once treatment is complete, a retainer is necessary to prevent the teeth from shifting into their old positions.
To keep your treatment on track and your trays clean, proper maintenance is required. Here are a few tips for cleaning your clear aligners:

Invisalign is a more comfortable, discreet and versatile teeth straightening system than traditional fixed metal braces. The clear plastic trays are much gentler, moving your teeth at just 0.1mm at a time, and do not cut the gums like metal braces can. However, the gentler pressure means results may take longer. Invisalign aligners can be removed for periods of time, while metal braces cannot.
Generally, Invisalign can treat common orthodontic complaints like mild-to-severe tooth crowding, an uneven bite (overbite or underbite), tooth gaps and other common tooth straightening problems. Invisalign clear aligners suit most adults and teens, but not all. Invisalign may not be suitable for severe tooth malocclusions, plus it may take longer than regular metal braces.
It depends on the severity of your malocclusion and your desired results. A single course of Invisalign takes 12 months for most adults, although actual time varies between patients—anywhere from 4-36 months. Most patients notice a difference in their teeth within 2-3 months of starting their treatment.
Invisalign isn’t completely pain-free, but the discomfort fades once your teeth adjust to wearing the aligners. The gentler straightening process means it’s is far less painful than metal braces, and the clear plastic trays don’t cut into gums.
