Types of Veneers Available
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are crafted from high-quality dental ceramic and are known for their durability and natural translucency. They closely replicate the light-reflecting properties of natural tooth enamel and resist everyday staining. Porcelain veneers are typically the longer-lasting option and are suited to patients seeking a durable solution.
Composite Veneers
Composite resin veneers can often be placed in a single visit and generally require minimal tooth preparation. While they may not last as long as porcelain, they can be repaired if chipped and are a practical option depending on your individual circumstances.
At Magic Smiles, your dentist will discuss which type of veneer is most appropriate during a thorough consultation, taking into account the location of the teeth involved, your oral health and your preferences.
Prepping Teeth for Veneers
Prepping teeth for veneers involves removing a thin layer of enamel from the front surface of each tooth, typically less than a millimetre. This step ensures the veneer sits flush with neighbouring teeth and gums once bonded in place.
An impression or digital scan is then taken and sent to a dental laboratory where your custom veneers are fabricated. To keep you comfortable in the meantime, temporary veneers are often fitted while your permanent ones are being crafted.
When your veneers are ready, your dentist will verify the fit and shade before bonding them permanently. Because enamel removal is irreversible, our team takes time during the consultation to confirm that veneers are the appropriate option before any preparation begins.
