Dentures

The loss of multiple teeth or an entire arch can have serious consequences for your quality of life and oral health. To restore function and beautiful aesthetics to your smile, you can be fitted with a custom denture at Magic Smiles at any of our two locations serving Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga.

Dentures are typically fabricated from acrylic resin and contain a row of natural-looking false teeth. Our dental practice has an in-house prosthetist who will oversee the fabrication of your denture. If you are seeking the superior stability of implant-supported dentures, you can schedule a consultation at the location most convenient for you.

What are my denture options?

Depending on the extent of your tooth loss, you may be a candidate for a partial denture or full denture. Both denture options can be held in place with dental implants or through traditional means.

No matter which denture option you opt for, you will have the benefit of our esteemed prosthetist to guide you through the process. Our prosthetist, Harry Ramana, brings many years of laboratory experience to our practice. Harry specializes in the use of acrylics. He continually stays up to date with the latest techniques in denture fabrication.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are a great restorative option for anyone who has experienced extensive tooth loss but still retains several or more healthy teeth. Partial dentures, sometimes called partials, fit in between your remaining teeth to restore your smile and bite. We have a range of options – from acrylic partials to chrome partials (metal). Your dentist can help determine which option is right for you.

Full Dentures

Full dentures restore a full arch of missing teeth. If you have experienced total tooth loss in your upper jaw, lower jaw, or both, you can be fitted with a custom denture that looks real and functions like natural teeth. Full dentures restore your ability to chew and speak with ease. The prosthetics also play an important role by filling out your cheeks so they do not appear sunken-in.

Traditional Dentures

Traditional partial dentures are typically held in place through the use of small metal clasps that hold onto natural teeth. Partial dentures can easily be removed for cleaning or when you sleep.

Traditional full dentures remain in place through a combination of suction and denture adhesives. Most patients find that, after an initial adjustment period, they can regain the ability to eat their favorite foods using these convenient prosthetics. Traditional dentures typically need relined approximately every two years to maintain an optimal fit.

Implant-supported Dentures

Many of our dental patients are opting for the superior stability that dental implants afford. Implants are titanium posts that are surgically placed in your jaw. Our dentists can handle every aspect of your dental implant treatment.

While traditional dentures rely on the bone ridge and gums for stability, implant-supported dentures are connected to implant posts. This offers unparalleled stability and prevents slipping and shifting – both common byproducts of conventional dentures.

How are dentures made?

If you are having a traditional denture fabricated, our prosthetist or one of our dentists will discuss the treatment process during a consultation. Patients should be in good oral health, so any cavity treatments or tooth extractions will need to be completed before you can have your denture fabricated.

Impressions or digital scans of your remaining teeth and jaw will be taken. Harry will use this information to customize a denture that meets your oral health and aesthetic needs. Once your denture is ready, a second visit will be scheduled so one of our dentists can ensure that the denture is a perfect fit.

To receive an implant-retained denture, you will first need to have multiple dental implants placed. Every step of the dental implant treatment will be handled through our dental office. Once your implants have healed, you can be fitted with your permanent implant-retained denture or partial denture.
